Paul H. Rausch, CPA, MSTPaul H. Rausch, CPA, MST

Paul is the Managing Partner of Pacios, Rausch & Company. Since joining the organization more than two decades ago, he has been instrumental in helping develop one of the most respected accounting and business consulting practices in the State. His business and tax acumen is sought by some of the regions leading entrepreneurs and governmental leaders and in 1993, Paul was appointed by Governor McKernan and legislative leadership to serve as a Tax and Fiscal Policy Advisor to the Maine Economic Growth Counsel. Throughout his quarter century dedication to assisting business owners achieve their financial goals, Paul's main role has been one of mentor and advisor.

In addition to his management responsibilities, Paul is also responsible for the employee benefits and estate planning areas of the practice. In this capacity he has assisted many individuals in developing strategies and programs to provide better service to their employees while maintaining strict budget constraints. Paul also counsels many of his individual and corporate clients in the area of estate planning including succession planning for closely-held family enterprises.

After graduating from the prestigious Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York in 1970 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, Paul joined the accounting staff of one of the country's leading international accounting and consulting firms. He was next tapped to become a corporate accounting specialist for a New York Stock Exchange listed company where he was responsible for advising subsidiary controllers in the preparation of quarterly reporting packages and was involved in special projects including acquisition studies for some thirty subsidiary entities. Paul combined this unique combination of both public and private accounting expertise to provide clients with a better understanding of their financial situations.

With this well developed foundation, Paul returned to school to receive a Masters of Science in Taxation from Bently College. A prolific author and lecturer, Paul has spoken on various business, accounting and tax related issues for the University of Maine, Husson College, the Lewiston-Auburn Chamber of Commerce and Score. He has also served on the Adjunct Faculty of the University of Maine and Husson College and is very active in community affairs. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Pathways, Inc. and Treasurer for Growing Through Adoption and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Simmons Foundation.

Paul is a member of the Maine Society, New York State and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is licensed as a CPA in Maine, and currently serves as Chairman of the Entrepreneurial Services Group for the Professional's Education Network, a national association of accounting firms.

Robert K. Pacios, CPARobert K. Pacios, CPA

Robert's career spans nearly 50 years and his involvement in the accounting profession has led to the success of many of the regions leading entrepreneurs and business owners. As the founding partner of Pacios, Rausch & Company, Robert has been a guiding force in the establishment of sound financial and accounting systems for individuals and business owners alike. His major field of practice includes federal, estate and gift taxes and he has served organizations including the State of Maine, the City of Lewiston, numerous state and local agencies, telephone companies and varied private manufacturing, service, wholesale and retail businesses.

In addition to his entrepreneurial skills, he has been tapped by his profession to give counsel and guidance and has served on the Executive Counsel, Membership Committee and the Legislative Planning Subcommittee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. At the State level he has served as the past President and has chaired many committees including legislation, membership and public relations of the Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has also served as a member of the Board of Governors of that organization for five years.

A well sought after speaker, he has taught or lectured at the New England Graduate Accounting Study Conference, the Northeastern University Federal Tax Institute, the Bently College Tax Institute and various federal income tax courses including the prestigious New England Public Accountants Tax Conference. His writings have appeared in Profit Margins, a publication dedicated to increasing the profitability of business owners, and in the Profit Counselor, a newsletter which services the legal profession.

His active community involvement includes serving as President of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, the Lewiston-Auburn area Chamber of Commerce, the Lewiston Exchange Club, and the Auburn-Lewiston Sports Hall of Fame. He has also served as a member of the Maine Turnpike Authority and as Chairman of that organization for the last seven years. Furthermore, he has served as treasurer for the successful Gubernatorial Campaign of James B. Longley and served as Chairman of Governor Longley's Personnel Selection Committee responsible for the selection of State department heads.

He has often appeared as expert witness involving income taxes and evaluation of businesses involving divorce and various other special issues. His appearances include testimony in the Maine District Court, Maine Superior Court and U.S. District Court. Prior to founding his accounting practice, Robert was employed by the Internal Revenue Service as Reviewer, Revenue Agent and Group Supervisor. This background has provided his clients with the uncommon knowledge of the practices of the Service and provides you with the insight as to the application of complex tax law.

Allison Slattery Szczesny, CPAAllison Slattery Szczesny, CPA
MANAGER-ACCOUNTING AND AUDITING
A native of West Minot, Allison has been involved in the accounting profession for nearly a decade. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree in accounting from Thomas College, Magna Cum Laude and earned her CPA certificate from the State of Maine in 1989. She is also licensed in the State of New York. Allison's accounting career began at Pacios, Rausch & Company as a staff accountant working with clients in the not-for-profit, government and for-profit sectors. As manager she is responsible for overseeing the successful completion of accounting and auditing engagements for our clients.

In addition these management responsibilities, Allison is also responsible for the ongoing Continuing Professional Education Program for the staff. Furthermore, as manager she has taken the lead in developing strong internal control systems to assist clients in managing there businesses more profitably.

Allison is also responsible for the ongoing assurance of quality control within the the accounting firm and has been instrumental in the design and development of time-saving procedures for client service engagements. Allison has been a guest lecturer at Thomas College and has developed and lectured at numerous client training seminars. Her writings have appeared in Profits and Margins and in the Profit Counselor.

A life-long resident of Maine, she now resides in Minot with her husband and two children. She is a member of the Maine State Society and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, Allison is a member of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary, the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the United Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross as well as the Financial Women International (FWI).
